When it comes to funny bras of the past, one thing is for certain - back in the day fashion had a unique style all its own. Many of these designs were quite bold, and often involved a bit of risque flair. From colorful corsets to frilly bustiers, there was no shortage of interesting bras that could be found in yesteryear's lingerie shops.

Bullet bra

Being the definition of hilarious (or outragous), let's start with the conical “pointy” bras which were popular during both the 1950s and 1960s. As their name implies, these bras had cups that pointed outward rather than lay flat against a woman's chest, creating an exaggerated silhouette sure to attract attention (and stares). They were often made out of satin or lace material and came in bright colors too. - Were they really meant as fashion, or as protective gear? Who knows...

Bustle Bra

One particularly amusing style was the so-called “bustle bra”, which were worn by Victorian women to create the illusion of having a larger derrière than they actually had. It featured two thick bands that connected together at the sides with an adjustable buckle or strap below the bustline. These bands created a kind of support system that allowed extra fabric to hang down from below the waist and give the impression of a curvier lower body shape.

Vivid Hues

A more playful option was seen during the 1950s when women started wearing brightly colored and creatively patterned bras as part of their everyday wardrobe, and even sometimes outside of it! This trend was popularized by movie stars like Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot who wore bras designed with polka dots, stripes and floral designs in vivid hues such as pink, yellow, green and blue.
